How to Join
To become an EMS volunteer in Vermont, you can get started in one of two ways:
- Join a squad: To be licensed in Vermont, you’ll need to have your national certification and be affiliated with a Vermont EMS agency. Contact your local agency to find out how to join their squad and what a typical membership and schedule looks like. Your local EMS squad may be able to offer a ride-along and can support your training efforts.
- Sign up for your local EMT class: The first step toward certification is to take an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. Once you have completed the course you will take a psychomotor and written exam to receive national certification.
