Therapy Dogs of Vermont Mock Crisis Training @ Berlin Armory Heliport

Therapy Dogs of Vermont (TDV) are requesting MRC’s help for volunteer actors for their 1st certification test for the Dogs Crisis Response program.  TDV is conducting a test which is a mock crisis event on Saturday, April 20th from 9am to 2pm at the Berlin Armory.

The event will simulate an actual crisis, such as a major flood, and include four stations in which potential therapy dog teams will need to interact with victims from the crisis. TDV is looking for a number of volunteers to help stage this mock crisis. Some of the volunteers will need to play roles, such as being afraid of dogs or being very upset, while others can be part of a large crowd to simulate the chaos and confusion that is part of a crisis.

These trained therapy dog teams currently visit health care facilities, schools, and other locations, but TDV now is developing a response program in which seasoned therapy dog teams will respond to crises around Vermont at the request of local authorities, such as comforting students after school lock-downs and disaster shelter opening.
